Introduction: Planning ideas for music video
For the first week of this project we worked on our own so
we could plan a idea of what we would do. Once we had done this we got put into
our groups of 4 and discussed what we had done. I and Hannah planned to do two
very similar slow songs, mine was People Help The People by Birdy and she had
looked into River by Emeli Sande. Danielle had planned to do a dance song, BeyoncĂ©’s
song Single Lady’s while Katie looked at Taylor Swift’s song 22 and wanted to
do a much more pop style video.
We looked at each of the songs and eventually decided as a
group that a slow song would be better as we could tell a story. While a fully
dance music video would be great it was a little unrealistic as it takes a lot
of time to choreograph a full song and you need to find dancers who can dance
in the right style of the song. And again the planning Katie had song for the
pop song was great but relied on a lot of other people to be free at the same
time to help bulk out a party idea. This would be very hard and time consuming
to organise and it’s never guaranteed to work out.
We then looked at the Birdy song and Emeli Sande song and
decided to focus on the Birdy song. The planning I had done and the basic idea I
had was liked by the whole group and so as a four we started to develop it. My original
story line was that a girl is emotional over a recent break up and by the end
of the song they will find each other and sort everything out. However having
discussed this with the group we decided that the break-up idea didn’t really
fit with the song as it focuses on the idea of helping others instead of helping
yourself. In my original idea I had thought to look at ideas of helping random
strangers such as giving a homeless man some money. However in my planning I had
pushed this to the background but the girls wanted to bring this forward in the
story line and combine it with a contemporary dance. This way the video still
had an element of Danielle’s idea which still fitted into the theme of the
song.
We had now created our storyline. It would still include
many people’s ideas and many different areas but hopefully it will all fit
together. Once this was done we looked into who we could use in our video and
where we could shoot the different themes. While we are still undecided about
who would play the main role in our video we looked into the contemporary
dancers a lot and watched some footage I had of two of my friends dancing together
to the same some we had decided on. Everyone instantly liked them and so, if
they agree to it, we plan to use them for a dance break during the
instrumental. We also looked into
effects and different aspects we could do. These ideas include;
-
Fading from black and white into colour to reflect
emotional changes.
-
Slow moition.
-
Manipulating time (starting with footage from the end
of the story and then going back to the beginning to show the story of how it
got there).
-
Lead being female.
-
Walking through streets
-
The good deeds that will be seen in our video.
-
Miming. (only a small section of our song will have the
lead lip singing, and this will be at the end).
